I´m out of movies. With Ryan Gosling I mean. As it happened a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine told me she had watched Blue Valentine and had a major esthetic shock. I thought, why, I could use aesthetic shock, too. And besides I thought that after Murder by numbers, Fracture and Fanatic (each watched 4 times or so) I had immunity. So I watched Blue Valentine. The lessons I´ve learned:
1. don´t you get so relaxed when dealing with movies with Ryan Gosling
2. no immunity against such perfection, just forget.
Ok. That Blue Valentine was quite something and I just could´t but watch All good things.
Half Nelson was also real good. Well, if you ask me, the Academy decided to stay on a safe side. They were simply not so sure whether Ryan Gosling is just so amazing and stunning (and that’s why they are ready to give him all their awards) or whether he is a great actor. Now I know he is both. But probably academicians haven’t seen as much as I have.
Then Lars and the real girl.
Then I was all too miserable but I watched The Notebook for the second time. The movie I entirely despise for a) what they´ve done with his hair, b) if I want something that unrealistic and fairy-tale-like, I watch Mermaid and never such nonsense as the Notebook.
Then there was an insurance shot. The release of Crazy stupid love.
And obviously I didn´t miss Drive. But I was massively disappointed. I did get my portion of blurry sight and sighs, but as a whole I´m not impressed.
And then…nothing else to watch except for United states of Leland. Honestly, some B-rated popcorn movies are better structured and…I just gave up, couldn´t watch it.
I tried, you know, other movies. Without Ryan Gosling. It´s no good. Why would you watch, say, The Shining by Kubrick, if you can stare at Murder by numbers, agog?!
My point of posting this is the necessity to warn you all.
Really, I´m all too lazy to log in anywhere, particularly on some English-speaking sites, but here I am. And I tell you, beware, or you will end up watching Young Hercules. Exactly what I´m doing right now.
Young Hercules, the show I totally hated when I was 10. Even then it seemed to me to be tacky and hideous. But then, I had no idea when I was ten. And now I´m 23 and it´s happening, I´m watching this sitcom about ancient Greece deliberately!
There is nothing left to do but try to find something positive in Young Hercules. OMG, it is exactly as tacky and hideous as I remember, but, you know what? Opening credits are really worth Emmy! I even rewind them, yeah.
I´ve seen 4 episodes already. As they say in Russia, despite the scratches and bleeding the hedgehog was determined to screw that cactus.
By the time the Ides of March (looks like it’s finally a decent movie) comes out, I will surely have seen the entire Hercules. Sad but true.
Fuckyeah, Ryan Gosling. Indeed.
